© Photo: HAM Helsinki Art Museum Monument to the Estonian volunteers Artist Into Saxelin Vanha kirkkopuisto (Old Church Park), Bulevardi, Helsinki Together with the architect J.S. Sirén, Into Saxelin designed and realized the monument to the Finnish volunteers who fell in the Estonian war of independence in 1919. The monument was erected 27.5.1923. The monument is a cube cut from red granite with dedications in Estonian, Finnish and Swedish as well as the names of the fallen inscribed in the stone. The memorial in Vanha Kirkkopuisto (Old Church Park) was commissioned by the Estonian Republic. The work doesn’t belong to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed by HAM. Read more..
