Ulf Tikkanen: Pulut-suihkulähde / Pigeons-Fountain, 1959. © Photo: HAM Helsinki Art Museum / Maija Toivanen Pulut-suihkulähde / Pigeons-Fountain Artist Ulf Tikkanen , Helsinki Ulf Tikkanen (1920-1969), who studied under and collaborated with Wäinö Aaltonen, was famous as a maker of birds. He found his inspiration and models on the island of Iniö in southwestern Finland where he spent his summers. His stylized water birds are his best and most personal pieces. He is also the author of the war memorial in Pietarsaari. While metal was Tikkanen’s favourite material, he also used stone, as in the war memorial located in Ähtäri and the lynx in Luleå, Sweden.
