Artist Howard Smith

Kaj Franckin aukio 2, Helsinki

Arabianranta’s walkway is adorned with Howard Smith’s environmental work, which consists of eight red and orange-yellow metal sculptures. The work is part of an art project which was intended to bring the Arabianranta environs to life.

Smith is a diverse artist, working with different mediums such as sculpture, paintings, industrial and decorative arts-such as ceramic techniques. Smith migrated from the USA to Finland in 1962. Smith’s art typically features illuminous colours and clear lines. He was awarded a prestigous Finnish national art prize, the Taideteollisuuden Valtionpalkinto, in 2001.

The work doesn’t belong to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed by HAM.
