Photo: © HAM Helsinki Art Museum Grandma’s Window Artist Leena Virtanen Kontukuja 5, Helsinki Grandma’s Window by Leena Virtanen (b. 1980, Vantaa) is a multi-part installation produced by sandblasting glass panes on the façade of the Kontula Service Centre, the windows in the staircase and the glass on the balcony. The work was inspired by crocheted curtains that carry associations with the comfort of traditional interiors. The motif is a pine tree, of which there is an abundance in Kontula. The work integrates a traditional craft method and its patterns into the architecture, function and setting of the building. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme. It does not belong to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed by HAM. Read more.. At map
