Niko Luoma: Kairos A, 2014. Photo: HAM/Hanna Kukorelli. Kairos A and Kairos B Artist Niko Luoma Helsinki City Hospital Malmi, Talvelantie 6, 00700 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Limited access: the work is available to view for the users of the premises only. Mounted in two opposite waiting rooms at a ward in Malmi Hospital, these two colour photographs by Niko Luoma (b. 1970, Helsinki) create a harmonious whole. The central concepts in the work are presence and that of a personal “now moment”. The now-moment refers to a point in time when something significant takes place: a turning point, the birth of an idea, a moment between moments. The ancient Greek word Kairos means precisely such an opportune instance. Niko Luoma’s abstract photographs seem like they were digitally enhanced, yet in reality they are the result of countless, purely analogue superimposed exposures. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
