Irma Laukkanen: Continuity, 1994. Photo: HAM/Yehia Eweis. Continuity Artist Irma Laukkanen Pitäjänmäki Comprehensive School, Viinenkuja 6 A, 00370 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Limited access: the work is available to view for the users of the premises only. Sculptor Irma Laukkanen’s (v. 1958, Kotka) work Continuity consists of rectangular panels of steel mesh painted blue and installed in a loose, suspended circle with a downward dip. The work hangs high up in entrance hall of the Pitäjänmäki Middle School. The work is designed to be an integral part of the space in which it is installed. In spite of the hard material, the work creates a light and airy impression. The work comes alive in the daylight streaming in through the windows. Indeed, the light can be regarded as part of the work. The form of the work, a ring or a circle, refers to eternity, and the twist in the shape creates an impression of movement. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
