The documentary Tove Jansson and the Ten Virgins

12:00 - 17:00

The documentary film recounts the background story of Jansson’s altarpiece and the construction of Teuva Church, which was built to replace the former wooden church that was destroyed in a dramatic fire. Jansson’s letters and notebooks offer insights into the painting process and the artist’s thoughts on the project, combined with imagery from her other mural paintings. Her professional persona and the zeitgeist of post-war Finland are captured evocatively in the featured archive material and reminiscences shared by her contemporaries.
