Rionkatu 10, Helsinki

Erika Kallasmaa (b. 1969) has created a large work for each of the façades of the building. Using a special technique, she has created pictures with coloured and glazed tiles. A few reliefs have also been inserted into the façades, made of special glazed tiles and integrally coloured fibre-reinforced concrete.

The pictures on the walls include butterflies, underground creatures, mountains and a meditating fig. The butterfly implies metamorphosis and development, the mountains imply dreams, the meandering river or serpent to forward motion, peace and fluidity.

The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme. It does not belong to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
