Terike Haapoja: Night Sky, 2012. © Photo: HAM Helsinki Art Museum / Hanna Kukorelli Night Sky Artist Terike Haapoja Jauhokuja 4, Helsinki The art works for Myllypuro Health Station by Terike Haapoja (b. 1974) take as their subject the Sun and the scientific research of solar phenomena. One of them, Night Sky, is mounted on the façade of the health centre and the other, Spectrum, in the lobby. Night Sky is a light work that extends over the entire front of the building. It consists of 950 LED lights that create a constantly shifting sea of light. Linked to the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s northern lights observation network, the LEDs visualise real-time data on magnetic eruptions on the Sun. When no northern lights are occurring, the work switches over to visualising magnetometer data that describes fluctuations in the Earth’s magnetic field. The work was produced in collaboration with the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
