Stele del Offerende (Sacrificial Pole)

Artist Mario Negri

Kuusilahdenkuja 1, Helsinki

Mario Negri was born in Tirano, Italy. He studied architecture for several years in Milan before World War II broke out. He was imprisoned and put for two years in a concentration camp in Germany. After his first exhibition he was an important contributor to the modern Italian sculpture movement.

Uhripaalu is interpretable as both realistic and symbolic and can be considered a typical example of his work. His work also shows a tendency towards the work of his Swiss relative, Alberto Giacometti.

The work belongs to the collections of the Didrichsen Art Museum.
