Kaija Kontulainen: Arabia's horses, 2003. © Photo: HAM Helsinki Art Museum / Hanna Kukorelli Arabia’s horses Artist Kaija Kontulainen Berliininkatu 4, Arabianranta,Arabia, Helsinki Kaija Kontulainen’s (born 1966) Horses was unveiled on 16 June 2003 outside the primary school in the new residential district of Arabianranta. The sculpture consists of two roughly life-sized simplified horse figures. Cast in bronze, the figures reach a height of about 2 m. The artist has intentionally designed the work to withstand friendly touching and petting by children. The school building was designed by Kai Wartiainen Architects/Mona Schalin. The sculpture was completed at the same time as the school and funded from the building budget. The work belongs to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed and curated by HAM.
