Sigurd Stenius' grave in Helsinki, 1969. © Photo: HAM Helsinki Art Museum Sigurd Steniuksen hauta / Sigurd Stenius’ grave Artist Tuntematon/Okänd/Unknown Sigurd Steniuksen puisto, Munkkiniemi, Helsinki Sigurd Stenius (1879-1969) and his wife rest in a grave surrounded by lush flowers and placed on a small mound in the park in the southernmost tip of Munkkiniemi. His status and importance to the Munkkiniemi district is explained by a memorial stone with the text: “Till Sigurd Stenius minne grundare av Munksnäs och Hoplax församlingar. Hoplax kommun samt Haga köping iniativtagare till Munksnäs folk- och samskolor. Sigurd Steniuksen muistoksi Munkkiniemen ja Huopalahden seurakuntien Huopalahden kunnan sekä Haagan kauppalan perustajan Munkkiniemen kansa- ja yhteiskoulujen aloitteentekijä.” (To the memory of Sigurd Stenius, the founder of the Munkkiniemi and Huopalahti parishes, the municipalities of Huopalahti and Haaga and the instigator of the Munkkiniemi primary and secondary schools.)
