“Builder’s Hand” is a fountain and was commissioned in 1959 by the building committee of the House of Culture. The House of Culture was designed by Alvar Aalto and built in 1956-58 by organizations close to the Democratic Union of the Finnish People, a left-wing political party. The piece is located in the yard of the House of Culture and depicts a monumental hand holding buildings miniature model. The piece is bronze.

Aaltonen became a redeemed national artist already during his life, mainly because if his work which nourished the still frail identity of the young nation.

The work doesn’t belong to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
