Kivinen vieras / Stone Visitor

Artist Hannu Sirén

Helsinginkatu 58, Taka-Töölö, Helsinki

Located in the forecourt of the Finnish National Opera, the Stone Visitor is a magnificent eight-metre-tall sculpture. Its surface is covered with deep grooves and cuts, as if it had been carved with a huge broadaxe. The shape of the Stone Visitor is reminiscent of the Rumanian-born artist Constantin Brancusi’s (1876-1957) Endless columns carved in wood.

The work doesn’t belong to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed by HAM.
