The commissioning committee demanded changes to it and only when the esteemed sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen intervened, the artist’s vision was allowed to become true. The work depicts two girls swinging. Although the figures are stylized, they still follow Classical ideals. Horizontal composition and the swinging motion lend life to the piece. Taisto Martiskainen’s (1943-1982) sculpture is cast in bronze and was unveiled in 1964. The work belongs to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed and curated by HAM. Read more..
